The big “A” race is done and over with. Now what? I’ve been spending quite a bit of time volunteering as a guide for Achilles International. I consistently train with them on Thursdays and will be guiding Lamar Brown at the Duathlon World Championships held in Edinburgh, Scotland early September. So training now isn’t for myself but to make sure I’m fit enough to help Lamar compete at his highest level.
After that, there are no big races lined up for me. As far as the future goes, I am content with short distance triathlons (sprint/oly) and want to focus on getting faster to perhaps get a podium for 2011. With regard to pursuing Ironman, that’s still my goal. However, I want to complete Ironman in a respectable time. I think I can finish an Ironman next year but I don’t want to race to simply finish, I want to finish in sub 12 hours – at least.
As of now, I am continuing to train but focusing on my weakness which is swimming. There was something about the NYC Triathlon that made me realize — hey, I’m not that slow! I’m interested in seeing how much faster I can get in a year and see where I rank in local sprints/oly. Yes, the competitive side is coming out.
